How to Tie a Bunny Leach Fly
The Bunny Leach fly is a general streamer pattern and is effective for all types of game fish. Many fly fishermen tie their flies not because they have to, but because they like to, and some will even tell you that tying flies is a hobby that requires good hands, patience, and creativity. Some may say it's difficult to tie flie, especially flies that will have the fish biting. But with patience and steady hands, you can actually get good at this and learn a new hobby. And, of course, catch more fish.

There are even some with videos on how to do this successfully without too much pain. Here is a method to tie a bunny leach fly:
Materials:
- Hooks: Sizes 2-10-5263. When placing the weights, you want to keep them on the front half rather than the back of the fly.
- Thread: To match the body of the line
- Eyes: Make sure they are lead weighted, otherwise they will be too light.
- Tail: On the skin you will need a thin strip of straight cut rabbit fur.
- Body: A very thin strip of crosscut rabbit fur. You can choose 2 tone colors or use the same color. Again, this is all tested. Therefore, different areas use different styles.
Tying instructions:
- Start by threading at the eye of the hook and then go back towards the shank approximately 1/4-inch back.
- Using a figure eight, tie the lead eyes until they are nice and secure.
- The thread needs to be wrapped up to the hook (eye), then tie in a light colored zonker strip.
- Make sure the light color is always leading (on top), since the eyes will cause the fly to flip on retrieve.
- Now tie the darker zonker to the bottom.
- Tie off your fly using what is called a whip finisher. (A tool designed to make whip finishing quick and easy)
- Use the bottom zonker strip and put it through to the hook point.
- Now, take both the bottom and top of the zonker and tie them together.
