Selecting Site for Lilies
Pick a site that has good drainage as this is a primary requirement in growing lilies.
If the soil is not properly drained, it is advised that you put gravel in the base of the bed. To assure the healthy growth of lilies, you must supply the soil with plant nutrients.
You should also pick a site that has full coverage of sunlight. However, partial shade during mid day will help preserve the colors of the lilies.

You have to dig to at least one foot of the soil. While digging, it is advised that you mix and add the fertilizer to the soil.
You have to set the bulbs as much as three times of the depth of the lilies. The bulbs should be cultivated in sandy soils with a distance of six to seven inches apart.

Mulches can help lilies to maintain moisture during hot conditions.
Aside from mulches, do not forget to water the lilies, particularly during summer to ensure its growth.
Lilies During Summer Season
During summer season, you can soak the plants to six inches each week.
You can also apply fertilizers or compost rich in phosphorous, nitrogen and potassium to enrich soil.
Lilies During Winter Protection
Prior to winter, it is advised that you cover lilies to avoid the plant from being ruined.
Refrain also from cultivating the soil deeply as it may affect the roots of the lilies.
