How To Grow Ginger
Planning the Site
You can use a pot to grow your ginger in. Make sure that the pot is 3 to 4 times bigger than the ginger rhizome you will be planting. Ginger can grow on almost any soil. Potting soil enriched with compost will suffice. Since it will be planted in a pot, you won't have to worry about sunlight. You can move your plant to a suitable spot.
Preparing the Site
Before putting in the soil in the pot, make sure it was already prepared a few weeks before. It should have been enriched with compost. Use clay pots which can provide good drainage for your ginger plant.
Required Materials
The materials required for growing ginger are the basic garden tools and materials. You will also need a ginger root, pot, potting soil and a glass of water. Submerge one thirds of the ginger in the glass of water. Wait until the roots are about an inch long. After this, you may plant it on top of the soil and then cover it with a layer of soil an inch thick. After that, move it to an area that has plenty of sunlight. Since it is in a pot and is mobile, you won't have a hard time doing this.
Watering Requirements
Ginger doesn't need much watering. The important thing is that the soil must be kept moist and must not dry up.
Nutrients Required
It is essential to have your potting soil enriched even before the start of the planting so that while the ginger is growing, you won't need to give it fertilizers. Adequate water and sunlight is all it will need.
Seasons
Growth of gingers is usually stunted during the cold seasons. Generally, ginger is abundant during fall.
Expectations/Results
Planting ginger is not that difficult. In 4 to 5 months, you can harvest your ginger. Gingers grow up to a height of 2 to 4 feet when they reach their maturity.
