Materials to Use in Drawing a Rose
Pencil – you may use the pencil that you are comfortable using, but it is advisable to use number two regular pencils.
Papers – 8.5 inches by 11 inches paper can be used. If this is the first time you are drawing a rose, it is advisable to use a thick sheet of paper that won't tear when you use an eraser. This will help you get some practice, before you draw to perfection.
Erasers – you should use clean erasers so as not to add dirt to your drawings.

Basic Steps to Draw A Rose

Start drawing by creating a pentagon shape. If you are not familiar with a pentagon shape, you can instead create a circle then marked five points with equal distances on the outer side of the circle.
You can create a line drawing of your image instead, if you find that easier.

Use the pentagon sides, the circle marked with five points or the line drawings to create the five petals that will then extend to the middle of the rose. After these petals, you can create additional overlapping layers of five petals each. Add enough layers to reach the middle of the rose.

As for the finishing touches, you have to create curved edges for the petals to give them a more natural look. You should also shade the drawing to form a more realistic image. You can use light pens to signify shade areas.
Tips for Drawing a Rose
- If you are drawing a rose in grayscale, remember to put emphasis on the lines and texture to come up with a more lively drawing.
- You can use light-colored paper with pastel color, preferably yellow, to give a light touch of color to your image.
