How to Draw a Dragon

Step 1: The Outline

Any drawing should start with an outline.

The Head

For the outline of the head, just draw two circles forming the number "8" diagonally. The uppermost circle would be the eyes, and the lowermost circle would be the nose or the snout of the dragon.

The Neck

On the tip of the uppermost circle, draw an S shape. The tip of the S should connect with the tip of the uppermost circle. Then connect another S shape to the lower part of the uppermost circle to thicken the neck.

The Body

From the thickened neck, draw a big circle to make an outline for the body.

The Tail

From the body, draw a long tail with an arrow shape at the end.

The Feet and Claws

Draw front feet and claws for the dragon. Now, in drawing the feet at the back create a horizontal oval shape perpendicular to where the body and the tail connect. At the bottom part of the oval draw the claws.

The Wings

A dragon is not a dragon without wings. So, on the upper part of the body, draw the wings. You decide how big the wings should be.

Step 2: The Details

Now that you have an outline of the dragon, it is time to put in the details.

The Head

The number "8" shape would be the head of the dragon. The shape of the face is up to you. Just use your outline as a guide. The upper circle would be the eyes, and the lower circle would be the snout. You can have a dragon with cute round eyes, or you can have a fierce-looking dragon. You can also add ears or horns.

The Neck, Body, Feet, and Tail

Now fill in the details on the neck, body, feet, and tail of the dragon. At the very least, a dragon should have scales. You could add horns on the tail or pointed scales on the body.

The Wings

You can add details like scales and spikes on the wings. You can also include bony protrusions for greater effect.

Conclusion

Congratulations! You have just drawn a dragon. You can now color it to breathe life into the creature.
