How to Draw a Cat

Step 1: The Head

Create the cat's head by drawing a horizontal oval shape. Make sure the head is not too oval. Draw two ears on top of the head. You can make them poity, or you can smooth their top a bit. Then, draw three horizontal lines across the circle to indicate the eyes, nose, and mouth. If you decide to lean the head a bit, to the right or to the left, make sure you also lean the lines, which must be paralel with each other.

Step 2: The Eyes

Draw two wide ovals along the horizontal line for the eyes. Make them proportional to the head. Inside each oval create a smaller oval for the iris of the cat's eye, because, if you look careful, a cat's pupil has a different shape than round.

Step 3: The Nose

As you may have observed, cats have noses shaped like the letter V (an inverted triangle). On the horizontal indicator line for the nose, draw an inverted triangle. This would be the nose of your cat.

Step 4: The Mouth

From the tip of the inverted triangle, draw a small vertical line. At the tip of that line, draw an inverted 3.

Step 5: Finishing the Face

Now that you have the outline of the face, you can finish it up by giving your cat whiskers and fuzzy hair around the face. But first, don't forget to erase those horizontal like with an eraser. Inside the ears, draw two smaller triangles and in order. Finish the eyes too, and make them more pointy. Also, draw a short lines from the corner of each eye to the nose (the right corner for the left eye and the left corner for the right eye). You can also add some stripes or any other pattern you want, even some thin eyebrows if you like. A tip: if you want to make your cat to look more friendly, increase the size of the pupils and add a small white dot.

Step 6: The Body

When drawing the body, begin by making a big oval as an outline. The oval must be placed under the head, in the left or the right side of the head, depending on where do you want your cat facing. Draw three vertical lines inside the oval. Where the first and last vertial lines are, draw a pair of angled legs, in shapes of boomerangs, each one close to the other. Ensure that the relative shapes and sizes for the body and legs are proportionate. Don worry if it looks awful for now, we'll take care of that on the next step.

Step 7: Finishing the Body

Now make the stomach of the cat a little more curved and join the body with the head. You can make the hair under the cat's chin fuzzy. Next, draw the paws and make the angled legs a little more curved. For the back legs, make the upper part look like an U.

Step 8: The Tail

Make the body lines a bit more curved, to make the cat look thiner. Also add some finishing thouches like patterns and fuzzy hair, redo some of the parts of the body that you don't like and so on. Feel free to use your imagination. Draw a thick "S" shape figure to represent the tail.
