How to Capo a Guitar

Tunes are the heart and soul of any song. Therefore, it is very important to play tunes carefully. This rule applies to every instrument; there are no exceptions. Like every other instrument, a guitar also needs to be tuned before playing a song on it. A capo can relieve you of the effort of repetitive retuning. It can be easily stuck to different frets of the guitar, and thus the pitch or the key can be changed by just placing the capo on the opening string. Here are some steps that you might like to consider when working on a guitar with a capo.

Things you need:

Instructions:

  1. Set up your guitar.
  2. Play a chord of your choice; however, it is recommended that you play the "c" chord.
  3. Next, put the capo on one of the frets. Usually it is placed between the first and the second fret.
  4. Put the capo close to the second fret but not exactly on it.
  5. Touch the strings to make sure that none of the strings are buzzing. In case you find that they are buzzing, tighten the capo a bit.
  6. Now play the chord once again. You will find that the tone has moved up half a tone.
  7. If you move your capo to the third fret and play the chord once again, you will find yourself playing the "d" key.
  8. The strings will feel much brighter when the capo is placed on the third fret.
  9. Experiment by moving the capo up and down. You will notice that with each change in fret there is a change in the tune played. At one point the tunes will sound much brighter, whereas at other times they will sound weird or even unbearable.
  10. The experiment will give you a fair idea of the tunes that you like and which you can use for your vocal range.
  11. When you clamp and unclamp your capo, always check for the tunes once again. This is because this clamping and unclamping can cause your strings to go out of tune.
