How to Build a Rabbit Hutch

How to Build a Rabbit Hutch

A rabbit as a pet is a cute idea. And they are pets that do not require much attention; they easily adapt themselves to living indoors or out in the open. But as they are more sustained to colder temperatures than warmer ones, it is wiser to keep them as outdoor pets. Therefore, they need a safe and secure cage, which is equally snug to live in. Thus building a hutch is essential to keep them from any harm. There are two main ways of building a hutch.

Draw out your plans on paper, making sure that you have mentioned every tiny detail and mention all of the supplies that you will need. The measurements should be in view of the size of your rabbit, and their growth. The size of your rabbit will decide the size of your hutch. The cage need not be too decorative or fashionable with three or four rooms, as rabbits are contended with just one roomy space. A hutch is for food and relaxation. Playing time is when they are out of the cage.

Instructions - Hutch Made of Wood

Step one: Good quality plywood should be used to build the enclosed space. It assures you that the home you build for your loving pet will not be easily ruined in a long time. Therefore, better quality products need to be used.

Step two: The hutch should be created with 2 divisions, one for the rabbit to use as a sleeping bedroom, which can be relatively smaller. The smaller room should open out into a bigger room that should be twice the space. The smaller section should be fully enclosed except for an opening into the main portion.

Step three: A wooden base is a poor option; wire flooring is more appropriate for both the portions as rabbits tend to litter a lot.

Step four: The main portion, also having wire flooring, should have a door made of wires. This facilitates good ventilation and air circulation. It is crucial for your rabbits to be hale and hearty.

Step five: The hutch should have a strong roof or covering, particularly in areas where snow falls frequently. The cage should be at least 2 feet above ground level to allow airflow.

Instructions - Hutch Made of Wire

Any pet shop or farm will provide you with an all-wire rabbit cage for indoor purpose. It can be used for outdoor usage, as it is a dual-purpose cage.

Tips: A superior quality of wood, preferably of 2 by 4 measurements should be used to build a framework surrounding the wire cage. A sloping roof should be designed at the top for the rainwater and snow to slide off it.

The second preference of a wire cage is a much best option for a rabbit hutch; however, it would be very difficult to build. In a hutch made of wood, the urination and droppings of the rabbits would damage it and the stench will also prove to be unhealthy for the rabbit. With all the above-mentioned ways it is very easy to make a good hutch for your adorable rabbit pets.
